As a new addition to the completion technology field, ARECO prides itself on the ability to think outside of the box. We come up with unconventional concepts based on market needs to create industry-advancing products.

 

This was the basis for the CoFrac™ system.

 

Shaped charge factories frequently perform steel target shooting tests. After perforation, there are often traces of powder residue on the steel target from the shaped charge’s metal shell. This “umbrella tail” of the perforation jet has a speed of about 1000-2500 m/s, while the speed of the front-end of the jet is 6000-8000 m/s. For ARECO, placing a donut-shaped propellant cap on the front-end of the shaped charge meant that the jet should pass through the cap hole and the umbrella tail should bring the propellant into the perforation tunnel.

 

After the shaped charge jet perforates the formation, the propellant material is pushed into the perforation tunnel where it deflagrates continuously. The energy released by the deflagration will apply directly to the perforation tunnel, creating a fracture network without damage to the wellbore and casing. The working mechanism, the pressure transfer between the wellbore and formation, and location of propellant deflagration are ultimately different from that of other perforation methods.

What is the difference between the CoFrac™ Gun and current perforating technologies on the market?

ARECO’s CoFrac™ system molds a high energy propellant cap at the front-end of any regular shaped charge. After the shaped charge jet perforates the formation, the propellant material is pushed into the perforation tunnel where it deflagrates continuously. How can ARECO technology help us reduce operation costs?

With the help of the CoFrac™ Gun system, perforation operations become highly efficient. CoFrac™ perforating creates fracture networks around the perforating hole, which is the most desirable working condition for subsequent hydraulic fracturing operations. The data from thousands of well perforating operations have shown that fracturing pressure was reduced between 10 and 30% by using the CoFrac™ perforation gun. The consumption of hydraulic fracturing proppants increased between 15% and 30%. This dramatically reduces the difficulty and cost of fracturing operations.

Is there need for additional equipment and personnel when using ARECO technology?

ARECO technology will greatly improve productivity for conventional and unconventional reservoirs while reducing the cost of fracturing and acidizing operations. Our technology is compatible with equipment used by traditional completion methods. There is no need for additional equipment, personnel or tools.
